We knew that moving from Anaheim, California to Spartanburg, South Carolina would involve a significant shift in our emotional and spiritual dynamics.  That, after all, was one of the reasons we moved.

There would still be critters and strongholds, but I was ready to swap the California critters for a new breed.  Variety energizes me.

I reviewed what I knew about the Teacher gift (Spartanburg) and the Prophet gift (South Carolina) but the theoretical exercise in my recliner did little to prepare me for the reality.

My first surprise when I got here was the way the religious spirt colored spiritual legitimacy.  Here, too many people express their legitimacy as a function of their association.  Specifically, they are legitimate because they belong to this church, or sit under that pastor or have received ministry from some big name.

When I try to turn the conversation to their personal journey, they are amazingly slippery, defaulting back to the group they are a part of.   If they have some tenuous association with a seemingly legitimate organization, they are, by default, fully legitimate!

So when we flip this around, the people who will be the most effective here are those who have their legitimacy deeply rooted in their design and God’s pleasure in their design.

I am learning to drill down on the design/joy issue much more intentionally here as a strategy for strengthening my spiritual authority on the legitimacy side.

The other surprise was the shift in deliverance.  I have not done much since I have been here since I have mostly been busy with very mundane tasks, (I got the exhaust leak on my truck fixed recently).

But on the occasions when I have been on the phone with someone, working through their story and their critters, God has tamped down my propensity to weave together principles in an authority-based confrontation with critters.  Instead He has had me default to power.  Repeatedly.

I pondered that and considered his varied forays into Jerusalem (also a Teacher city) and saw that He used power as a strategy against the theological obdurance of the religious leaders.

Apparently, the strategy has not changed in 2,000 years.

What is fascinating to me is how meticulously God has prepared me to have spiritual authority here.  The legitimacy discussion has been going on for 20 years.  And about three years ago He pushed me to move from exclusively the authority model to the power model of deliverance.

I love the God Who Plans Ahead.

    Not surprised ...all according to God's perfect timing! My First entry into deliverance was 2001. Only a few teachings/books on the subject but later on, I gained much from your deliverance teachings. I still have large cassette sets of those teachings. I am now in another season of deliverance...His perfect timing.....!

    So, some manifestation of the opposite spirit would be to reject the associations with this or that organization as a basis for legitimacy?!
    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, already some of my path the last few months is making more sense.

    I am new to your work though I have worked through a good amount over the last few months. I was given a book about blessing your spirit and wow! I never knew how to engage my spirit or that it was even possible. What i have read and watched and listened to (currently going through fractals of 2) resonates but I feel like I'm missing the "basics". Sometimes it's the language that I am unfamiliar with and sometimes the concepts. God had been speaking to me about the land where I live needing something but it didn't make sense until I found your site. I knew what I saw but had no idea what that meant. So I guess I have 2 questions. How does one discern what kind of city you live in? (Teacher etc) Is there a starting place-a teaching to begin this journey?

    Replied by : Arthur Burk 1. If you go to Free Audio and look up the Redemptive Gifts of Cities audio file, it will give you an extensive set of tools for discerning the gift of your city. There are quite a number of teachings there on redemptive gifts of other cities and nations that will add depth to your research. 2. And no, there is not a convenient starting point. Our material is quite fragmented as we have sundry topics we discuss in various different contexts and there is not a comprehensive plan, nor a linear way through. It has been said that plugging into SLG is like jumping on a moving train with three suitcases, two toddlers, a dog on a leash and a broken leg. Awkward. I suggest you explore our Facebook page as there are a lot of more well versed people who hang out there and are very open to answering questions about where concepts fit together and how.

    If the power method is illustrated in Peter's shadow, is that like the power of presence? I'm rather new to this stuff and this is interesting. I read the passage in Acts 5, and it's very sparse as far as illustrations go. :)

    Replied by : Arthur Burk Yes, that would be called the Blessing of Presence, in our vernacular. There are other illustrations of power such as Peter and John healing the lame man with a simple comment. No confession, or renunciation or any of that stuff.

    It is very exciting to see how God plans ahead ,sees the whole picture , implements ,plans and draws us by the Holy Spirit to accomplish His will on earth as it is in Heaven!
    Rejoicing with you in seeing the religious spirit put where it belongs and Gods original design for Spartanburg ,SC take root!
    God has been at work in me to help me overcome legitimacy issues and I believe He brought us back to the south for this and other reasons.

    Can you explain the difference between the authority model and the power model of deliverance?

    Replied by : Arthur Burk The authority model is what people largely use today. They find the sin, confess, and then claim legal right to evict the demon. The power model is illustrated in Peter's shadow healing people.
